BCBSA started selling health plans back in 1929. Today their local network of companies provide healthcare for one in three Americans.

So here they are in the twenty-first century still offering health insurance, although this time over the net.  Dozeninsurance.com took a look at their site to review what they had on offer.

Health care plans

BSBSA healthcare plans include a range of plans across the US as well as those that are valid for travelers going abroad.

The plans are listed and expanded upon but we found the explanations very technical, making the site less user friendly than many others.

Is this site safe? Does the site protect my personal information? Is the privacy policy easy to find? Will this site bombard me with emails or share my details with other providers? Is this site recommended or verified by a regulator?.

The privacy policy states that email addresses are not sold on to third parties and unsolicited mail will not be sent from BCBSA.

Financial details are not covered in the policy, presumably because the individual BCBSA federation of companies are responsible for this and each will have their own privacy policy.

What else can I do here? We gave extra points to sites with video, audio, blogs, mobile, forums, podcasts and chat..
The site is not full of video and audio but is solely text based.  There is an RSS feed for their news but other than that, all quiet here.

You can search for doctors and medical insurance providers but overall there are fewer search functions on this site than other medical insurance sites we visited. You can filter the search with specialisms, languages spoken and other criteria.
