This federal service stems from the COBRA law that entitles citizens to receive temporary medical cover in situations where they have lost benefits.

It aims to help the 45.7 million uninsured Americans who are temporarily in-between job, providing short term health insurance whilst they look for jobs or put longer term medical insurance arrangements in place.

Cobra! My god

This is not really medical insurance in the common sense but an extension of previous benefits with an employer. Cobra lasts between 18-36 months during which time the individual is expected to put in place other arrangements. It also includes Cobra Alternative, a more cost effective option, which is valid for up to 12 months.

The range of plans on offer depends upon the previous arrangements that were in place with their employer.

The site misses a trick here.  It is solely focused upon the insurance policy and does not make any effort to inform or educate.

Bearing in mind they are targeting those without any health insurance the site has the potential to add a whole range of content.  This might deal with emergencies, informing about the management of health conditions or finding healthcare support whilst uncovered by any policy. A real missed opportunity.
